The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) has announced its 2024 recipients for the prestigious "Science, Special, Service, and Incentive Awards." These awards aim to promote research and development in scientific and technological fields, while fostering the growth and development of scientists and researchers. This year, TÜBİTAK will confer 7 Science Awards, 1 Service Award, and 13 Incentive Awards.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özkan has been honored with the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award for his internationally distinguished contributions to three-dimensional (super) gravitational theories and their non-relativistic limits among the recipients. These studies delve into the advanced mathematical and theoretical frameworks that explore gravitational phenomena in three-dimensional spacetime models, which has significant implications for understanding the dynamics of gravitational systems in reduced dimensions, particularly in scenarios where relativistic effects are negligible. The research is internationally recognized for its potential to bridge the gap between classical and quantum gravity, providing a testing ground for ideas in holography, gauge-gravity duality, and emergent spacetime. It also significantly advances the understanding of gravitational dynamics in reduced dimensions and their connections to high-dimensional theories, opening pathways for further exploration in both theoretical and applied physics.
